(pictured above @ 2 yrs)
Ian & Marilyn Cooke started DELAFORCE KENNELS in 1992 with the arrival of our first litter. We are only a VERY small select kennel, located in Lewiston, South Australia. The kennel is named after our foundation bitch - Taurorn Beluschka AZ CD (*Ch Elvarado Super Star A BSCL:1 x *Ch Pejanka Uschi A CD BSCL:1), known affectionately as DELTA, hence -
DELTA was our first pedigree GSD & was initially purchased for Marilyn to do obedience. Delta was purchased from Gail and Brian Fielder (Taurorn Kennels) long time obedience friends. It was because of Delta, we became members of the GSDC of SA, which led to an involvment in showing both Specialist & All Breeds.
Delta was an all round German Shepherd, not only did she perform well in the show ring - obtaining In Group and Runner Up in group awards; she also obtained her CD (Companion Dog Title) in three straight trials always finishing in the top 3 placings. Her last trial saw her awarded 1st place with a score of 192/200; Ian lost 3 points from her overall score - it should have been 195! She was also the highest dog in Trial. She won the Top Dog award at the Woodville Dog Obedience Club Inc in 1995.
DELTA had 3 litters, from these litters we achieved, 2 Australain Champions, 4 breed surveyed animals, all class 1. 6 of her progeny were xrayed all achieving there A & Z stamps. 3 achieved excellents in the comformation ring & 1 an excellent in the obedience ring. Two (2) attained placings 'on the pegs' at National Speciality Shows. Now following generations are also achieving these goals.
D'Arcy (pictured above) was from our first litter out of DELTA & our first Champion. She attained her first CC points at her first outing in Minor Puppy & was Challenge Bitch & Best of Breed at the Royal Adelaide Show in 1993 Judge: Mr H Jordan (UK) at 13 months of age. He had just come back from Germany and had a long talk to Ian. She repeated this feat again in 1995 Judge: Mr Fred Lanting SV (USA) who was very impressed with her movement. She became an Australian Champion at 14 mths. She had over 500 CC points when we stopped showing her, no grand champion titles then. She was multi excellent graded in the specialist ring as well as a multi Class In Show (Specialist & All Breeds) & Best In Group winner, under Australian & International Judges.
Her brother *Ch Delaforce Alliance AZ H-Neg BSCL:1 (Vader) shown sparingly, was a Champion before he was 2yrs. He was challenge dog at the Royal Adelaide Show in 1993 (Judge: Mr. Harry Jordan (UK) as well as an Multi Class In-Group winner. At his first specialist show in 1993 - Nuriootpa National, Judge Herr Richard Dexel, he placed 7th Minor Puppy Dog 'on the pegs' out of 24 who returned to the ring (graded very promising) handled by Ian. His critque reads: Good size for age, good type, well angulated, croup is steep. Stepping straight. This dog should be kept firmer & drier. Roomy gait but falls slightly on the forehand. Vader was proudly owned & loved by Mrs Raylene Balneaves, most importantly he was her best mate. A masculine Delaforce male. (Pictured below)
Delaforce have now bred 5 comformation excellent graded animals and 2 obedience excellent graded animals from 3 dams. In total we have bred and/or owned 10 excellent graded animals comformation and/or obedience, with many of them being multi excellent graded. We have taken 10 animals to survey 6 of our own breeding and 4 we purchased; with all gaining classification, 9 attaining class 1 and our lovley *Astasia Zola AZ being class 2 only because of her height 61cms. (This restriction has now changed of course!!). We have breed and/or owned 6 Australian Champions (Conformation) made up of 5 GSD's & a Greyhound and 2 Obedience Champions - 1 Border Collie & 1 GSD. At this point of time we have only bred 12 litters (76 puppies only) from 6 dams, so as can be seen we are a small select kennel - only 12 litters in 19 yrs. 13 animals of our breeding have been presented for x-ray of their hips and elbows with all 13 passing thus gaining their 'A' and 'Z' stamp for hip and elbow dysplasia. We believe that quality and soundness start with good quality mother lines.
Other animals from Delta's litters (apart from D'Arcy & Vader):
*Delaforce Bel Espirit 'A' 'Z' ET BSCL:1 Multi Excellent Graded Owned by Andrew Hueppauff.
A daughter of Australian Champion *Kardin Chats Champion 'A' H-Neg BSCL: 1 VA (Krueger who was the 1994 National Gold Medal Winner & Multi National Medal Wiiner) (A repeat mating of our successful first litter)
Purchased originally for obedience; but the show/breeding bug bit and Brittany proved she was of the quality to both perform and produce. Always supporting and assisting Andrew through his endeavour from 1994, when he obtained a 12 week old Kruger puppy at the MBE held at WEST BEACH, Adelaide, SOUTH AUSTRALIA, Brittany (or Britt as she was often called) was multi excellent graded (normally handled by Ian or our then 11yr old son Graham). Brittany became the foundation bitch of ANDREW's kennel, producing a Multi Excellent graded daughter, an Australian Champion son (from the same litter), a son who worked in correctional services, an excellent graded grand-daughter and other progeny who gained there A & Z stamps Sadly, Andrew lost Britt to bloat at 7yrs of age, then sadly we lost Andrew.
*Delaforce Cool Runnings AZ BSCL:1 Excellent Graded. Owned by Gail Wellman
A daughter of *Alk von Domenica (Gmy) a Z VA (Alk)

Delaforce Cool Charisma CDX (Excellent Graded Obedience) Owned by Fred Lumsden
A daughter of *Alk von Domenica (Gmy) a Z VA (Alk)
Kari was consistently highly placed in obedience trials. Kari was awarded the excellent medallion for obedience which means she attained a score of 190/200 or more. Unfortunately Fred lost Kari to bloat at a young age and her full potential was never reached.
Fred returned to us and purchased another girl 'Delaforce Hocus Pocus' (*Nilson vom Wildsteiger Land (Gmy) aZ H-Neg x *Astasia Zola AZ daughter) Both of Fred's girls pedigrees contain the very good lines of *Alk von Domenica (Gmy) a Z VA.
Thankyou very much Fred for all your very hard work.
Fred must be a glutton for punishment as he has now obtained his third Delaforce GSD - Delaforce Kwint Essential. Kwintie also goes back to AlK and is Hokey's neice. Time will tell what the future holds for this young miss.
Continuing to fly the Flag for Delaforce in the Obedience arena; we are very proud of your achievements, a proud friendship. ALL THE BEST FRED !! (Read more about Fred and his 'girls' on their page - The Obedience Connection)
Prior to that Ian & Marilyn were heavily involved in Obedience, both life members of the Woodville Dog Obedience Club. Marilyn trained her non-pedigree GSD to trials standard at WDOC & then went onto become an instructor & Chief Instructor. Marilyn also trained a Greyhound (Leah) to Trials Standard. Marilyn now has another GREYHOUND - Aust Ch Elwick Summer Love (V) (Poppy) who is doing very well in the show ring. (2005 & 2006 - Best Of Breed Adelaide Royal Show; 2007 & 2008 R.U. Best of Breed)
Ian joined WDOC in 1977 with his Border Collie BEN. This is where Ian & Marilyn met. Ian & Ben flew through the classes. (Marilyn was his instructor). Ian and Ben enjoyed obedience and went as far as they could in those days - they became Ian and Ben AOC - a title made up of obedience & tracking. Ben was the first non-pedigree Australian Obedience Champion & the first Border Collie to achieve this feat in South Australia. They were inaugural members of the Pal Super Dog Team in Sth Australia, performing all over the state. Ian is a past president of WDOC, holding that position for some 6 years.
Ian & Ben AOC were Top Obedience Dog & Handler at WDOC in 1988, Ian & Delta achieved the same feat in 1995. Delta achieved her CD title in straight trials, always in the top 3 places finishing with a score of 192/200 & first place. We have been involved in the dog world whether it be obedience or showing for nearly 30 yrs.
For a relatively new and small kennel we have had some success in both rings. We have bred and /or owned animals that have achieved In Group & In Show awards as well as Australian Champion titles in the All Breeds ring and Obedience arena. In the Specialist ring, we have had animals achieve excellents in both obedience & conformation & have had animals placed 'on the pegs' at Nationals, obtain In Show awards as well as, an obedience Winner of Winners and Silver Medallist (2008 GSD National Show & Restricted Trial).
Our son Graham use to do of the specialist handling for us, starting out at 11 years of age when he out handled his dad at Broken Hill handling *Delaforce Bel Espirit AZ ET (Brittany) into 5th place 'on the pegs' in a large Open Bitch class under a Belgium Judge. The judge seemed very impressed when Graham could answer his questions before the interpretor had finished, (he was learning German at School at the time!) He matured into a very good handler. With the rapport he had with the dogs he was a pleasure to watch in the ring. He even handledg in the All Breeds ring. (Thanks Gray). Graham has also handled other breeders animals to 'on the pegs' placings at speciality shows including Nationals. Gray has moved on with his own adult life....
And now introducing our new handler Miss Tina Sunman who at 18 yrs of age and coming from an 'All Breeds' background is doing an excellent job with our Team and has also caught the eye of other breeders as a handler. She has now handled In-Show and class in show winners at GSD Specialist shows. Tina's first shows were a members comp then the 2008 GSDCA National in Adelaide, where the German judge commented oh her handling skills - All this at 13/14 yrs of age.
Now its time for the new 'kids'
and they are making us proud.
We sincerely THANK those people who have purchased our dogs & put in the hard yard to achieve these milestones.
We especially THANK all those people who have purchased puppies & older dogs & made them much loved & very well cared for family members, as this is our first priority.
